Perissa is well known for its long black sandy beaches, which extend for 7 km. These beaches offer a wide range of beach bars and water sports. A distinctive feature is the Mesa Vouno, an enormous rock rising from the sea, with an altitude of 264 meters. A characteristic attraction in Perissa is the Byzantine church of Saint Irene. Santa Irene is the protector of the island and the saint from whom the island was named after (Santa Irene). On the 29th of August and 14th of September festivals are held at the church in honour of the patron saint of the island. At these festivals you can find traditional souvenirs, wines and treats. For those who wish to explore and learn more about Santorini, Akrotiri is a small village which was once buried during the Theran eruption. From 1967 to our days many wonders of this Minoan settlement have been revealed, from pottery to three storey buildings with advanced drainage systems.
